Discounts / Sales

The SmarterLiving.com website provides a lot of good information about discounted and bargain travel.  The site lists airlines and hotels that offer various discounts, including senior discounts and travel packages.

Many museums and attractions in Paris offer reduced fees, «tarif réduit», to those over the age of 60.  Be sure to ask for a senior discount when you purchase your ticket.  You may have to show your passport.

In France there are only two legal sales periods.  Winter sales «soldes d'hiver» usually begin the second week in January; summer sales «soldes d'été» are held from mid-June to mid-July.  These sale periods, typically, last about 5-weeks.  Prices can be reduced as much as 50-percent.  If you get there early, there are some real bargains.  Stores are not allowed to bring in special merchandise for these sales.  They must sell from their existing inventories.  Don't forget to get your tax refund form « detaxe »  for purchases totaling 175 € or more!  See tab on "Shopping".
